Natural Cycle IVF

The Basics

Genova IVF Fertility Centre Lahore, specializes in Natural Cycle IVF in Pakistan. In simple terms, the difference between a Conventional IVF and a Natural Cycle IVF procedure is that in a Natural Cycle IVF no fertility medication is given to the woman.

There are two main advantages of a Natural IVF procedure.

  • Reduces the cost compared to a conventional ivf procedure as no fertility medications are used.
  • Avoids discomfort and inconvenience from daily fertility injections.

In a Natural Cycle IVF procedure, the fertility specialist monitors the patient cycle with precision to harvest her egg at the most optimal time.

The focus of Natural IVF procedure is not to produce as many eggs as possible by using fertility medication but to manage one egg that is of the highest quality.

At Genova IVF clinic Lahore, each patient receives customized IVF care. The treatment plan is designed with your best interest in mind. Based on your individual situation we will assess if Natural IVF is suitable for you.

Am I eligible for Natural Cycle IVF?

At Genova IVF Fertility Centre, we don’t differentiate between patients. We will do what is right for you. No matter how complicated your case is, we will not refuse treatment to maintain our success rates.

Natural Cycle IVF is not suitable for every patient and has its drawbacks so we will only advise to go ahead with this treatment if you are a suitable candidate.

Major candidates for Natural Cycle IVF include women who:

  • Have elevated follicle-stimulating hormone levels.
  • Who are higher risks for originating ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (ohss).
  • Are unable to produce a huge number of eggs in a single cycle.
  • Do not react properly to fertility medications.
  • Are at a superior maternal age for fertility, mainly over 35 years.
  • Cannot afford the expense of fertility medications.
  • Don’t want to develop multiple embryos for ethical or religious motives.

One Good Egg Policy

In a Natural Cycle IVF our focus is on the quality of the woman’s egg as we do not give priority to the quantity of eggs which she is able to originate.

It is not always the case that multiple embryos and eggs proceed towards higher chances of pregnancy success. In a Natural Cycle IVF as no fertility medications are administered the goal is to harvest one fine egg the woman produces each month, fertilize it in vitro and then transfer to her uterus for implantation. The doctors of Genova IVF & Fertility Centre have a belief that naturally produced egg of a woman is usually the finest quality and likeliest to outcome in a successful pregnancy.

Treatment

The Natural Cycle IVF Procedure

Step 1: Follicle Monitoring

In Natural Cycle IVF the most important step is to monitor the natural production of an egg of a woman. We use regular blood tests and TVS ultrasounds to assess the quality of the egg. When our doctor determines that the eggs are at a mature stage, ovulation will be encouraged.

Step 2: Egg Retrieval

To collect the mature egg from the woman’s body, a Genova IVF doctor performs a minor outpatient surgery called a vaginal ultrasound egg retrieval. The surgery is a short thirty-minute procedure performed at our world-class Genova clinic. A light anesthesia is administered to ensure comfort. Most women can return home an hour or so after the procedure.

Step 3: Embryo Development

Our highly trained embryologists will combine your egg with your husband’s sperm for fertilization. In most cases your husband’s sperm will be directly injected into your egg. This process is called Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). The sperm fertilizes an egg few hours after insemination. Fertilized egg, now called embryo, is transferred to our incubators to develop further

Step 4: Embryo Transfer

The embryo is typically transferred into the woman’s uterus three to five days after egg retrieval and fertilization. This procedure occurs in-clinic using a catheter inserted through the cervix. This procedure is painless for most women and generally you can resume regular activities the next day. If an embryo sticks to the uterine lining and grows, pregnancy results. Any unused embryos may be frozen to allow the option of future implantation.

Step 5: Embryo Transfer

The embryos are typically transferred into the woman’s uterus three to five days after egg retrieval and fertilization.
