Egg Freezing

The Basics

Genova IVF fertility offers many solutions for couples that are unable to conceive. With the help of nature and the latest advances in science we can improve your chances of fertility significantly. One of the most revolutionary techniques in fertility treatment is egg freezing.

Benefits of egg freezing

One of the main factors causing decrease in fertility is age of a woman. As women get older the quality and the number of their eggs decrease. By the time a woman reaches age 40 their egg quality is significantly reduced which makes it difficult to get pregnant. Age also increases the chances of complicated pregnancies.

Egg freezing is a revolutionary process in which a woman can freeze their eggs when they are young to be used at a later stage in life. Egg freezing preserves the quality of an egg indefinitely ensuring that your fertility is maintained until you are ready to have a child. We recommend that women who chose to postpone pregnancy for any reason, go through egg freezing early and preferably no later than age 37. In this way the quality of your egg would be protected no matter when you chose to get pregnant.

Egg freezing makes sense for women that want to delay pregnancy for medical or personal reasons but want to ensure that their fertility is not affected when they are ready to have a child. Here are some common medical reasons:

  • Women who are undergoing cancer treatment
  • If you are likely to have a premature menopause
  • If you have high risk of ovarian disease

Women between the ages of 25 and 37 benefit most from egg freezing as the ovarian reserve is highest in this age bracket. The younger the egg the greater the chance for a successful pregnancy.

Treatment

Egg Freezing Process and IVF

    1. Ovarian Stimulation: Fertility medicines are prescribed starting day 2 of your Menstrual Cycle. The goal is to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple follicles. Using ultrasound and blood tests your Genova fertility doctor will monitor the growth of the follicles and your hormone levels. When it’s time to retrieve the eggs, your doctor will give a an hCG injection to ensure your eggs are mature in time for retrieval
    1. Egg retrieval: Using ultrasound your doctor retrieves your eggs using a thin needle. This is a minor procedure and we use general anesthesia. The eggs are then frozen using a new advance technique called Vitrification.
    2. Future IVF-ICSI Cycle:  When you are ready for pregnancy, our expert embryologist will thaw your egg and inject it with your husband’s sperm to fertilize it using ICSI. This fertilized egg is then placed in your womb.
