Endometriosis

The Basics

Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease. Up to 50% of women with infertility issues have endometriosis. Out of every 10 patients that see a gynecologist at least 1 is diagnosed with endometriosis. The good news is that if endometriosis is diagnosed and treated early, it won’t affect your fertility success. At Genova IVF Lahore, our fertility specialists are highly trained to diagnose and treat all stages of endometriosis.

Symptoms of Endometriosis are wide-ranging and can be difficult to diagnose. It is possible that you are unaware that you even have it. Women with ‘unexplained infertility’ may be experiencing endometriosis.

If you are suffering from moderate or severe pain that could also be a sign of endometriosis.
Genova IVF fertility doctors are trained to detect endometriosis early to ensure it does not affect your fertility success.

  • What is Endometriosis?
In endometriosis, the normal uterine lining is in an abnormal location. Normally, the uterine lining is shed through the cervix during menstruation. With endometriosis, however, the lining is shed in the other direction – down and out the end of the fallopian tubes, where it can surround the ovaries and nearby structures.
Exactly like a normal uterine lining, these cells grow and ‘menstruate’ every month, causing local inflammation and scar tissue. Over time, the areas of endometriosis can also lead to pain and infection. If the condition is untreated, the uterine lining can grow to block the Fallopian tubes and ovaries, preventing a woman from becoming pregnant. How Endometriosis affects your fertility?
Most patients discover that they have endometriosis when they come to our clinic for checkup. It is one of the main causes of infertility. Endometriosis can be a cause of scaring of ovaries and blocked or damaged fallopian tubes which directly affects your chance to get pregnant.

    What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of endometriosis vary and some patients experience no symptoms at all. It is common that patients who are diagnosed with “unexplained infertility” have endometriosis.
    Here are some common symptoms:

    • Infertility
    • Painful menstrual cramps
    • Painful sexual intercourse
    • Painful bowel movements
    • Pain in the lower back area
    • Abnormal menstrual bleeding

If you have any of the above symptoms or have been diagnosed with “unexplained infertility” we highly recommend that you seek advice from our fertility specialists at Genova.
Our fertility specialist will do a thorough examination to determine the right treatment plan so you can overcome this treatable disease to maximize your chance to become pregnant.

The second option is to perform a diagnostic laparoscopy to detect endometriosis lesions and to remove if confirmed.
